How to publish with Microsoft® Front Page®
How to publish with Microsoft® FrontPage® version 2002
  1. On the File menu, click Publish Web.
  2. In the Publish Destination dialog box, do one of the following:
    • Type the location of a Web server
    • Click Change to find the publishing location.

    Note   If you have previously chosen a publishing destination for this web site, the Publish Destination dialog box will not appear. Proceed to step 4.

  3. Click OK.
  4. Specify the pages you want to publish.
  5. To publish sub webs, select the Include sub webs check box.
  6. Click Publish.

    FrontPage publishes your web site to the Web server you specified. If you want to verify that your web site was successfully published, click the hyperlink that is displayed after the web has been published — your web browser will open to the site you just published.

    Note: If you cancel publishing in the middle of the operation, files that have already been published remain on the destination Web server.

 

How to publish with Microsoft FrontPage 2000
  1. On the File menu, click Publish Web.
  2. In the Publish Destination dialog box, do one of the following:
    • Type the location of a Web server.
    • Click the arrow to select a location to which you have already published another web site.
    • Click Browse to find the publishing location.

    Note   If you have previously chosen a publishing destination for this web site, the Publish Destination dialog box will not appear. Proceed to step 4.

  3. Click OK.
  4. Specify the pages you want to publish.
  5. To publish sub webs, select the Include sub webs check box.
  6. Click Publish.

    FrontPage publishes your web site to the Web server you specified. If you want to verify that your web site was successfully published, click the hyperlink that is displayed after the web has been published — your web browser will open to the site you just published.

For Microsoft FrontPage 98:

Step One: Check your connection to your new web site for the first time.   Do this Once or as a troubleshooting measure.

  1. Dial-up your Internet Service Provider and listen to make sure your modem connects.
  2. Open FrontPage Explorer.
  3. Select File, Open FrontPage Web.
    • Click in the box More Webs and type your IP address as written above followed by a carriage return after clicking in the box that says Web Server or File Location.
    • Click on List Webs.
    • Click on <Root Web>
    • Click on OK.
    • Enter your userid and password.
  4. At this point, you should see your empty web site with this welcome page.

Step Two: Copying your local web site to the server.

  1. Start FrontPage Explorer.
  2. Select File Open FrontPage Web from FrontPage. Retrieve and select a local copy of your web site.  Leave the box checked, "Open an Existing FrontPage Web".   Using, the little down arrow next to the box select your local computer name.  Once you have your local server selected, press the Ok Button.
  3. Now, use your modem to dial up like your going to "surf" the Internet.
  4. Switch back to FrontPage Explorer. Once your local web site comes up, select the Publish FrontPage Web command From File.
  5. Next select the More Webs button.  Click in the white box and type the IP Address as shown above then press the OK button
  6. Next under Destination Web Name, erase everything in the box. The box should be empty. Select the Option "Add to an existing web". Select the Option, "Change existing pages only".
  7. Press the OK button.
  8. Wait.
  9. Now start Netscape or Internet Explorer or some other local browser and press the OPEN button.
  10. Type-http://"Web ADDRESS ABOVE" and press OK.Step Two: Copying your local web site to the server.

Step Three: Modifying web pages in the future- Import Web
Just re-publish your web site as in Step Two Above but select an already existing location to publish to.

  1. Start FrontPage Explorer.
  2. Select File Open FrontPage Web from FrontPage. Retrieve and select a local copy of your web site.  Leave the box checked, "Open an Existing FrontPage Web".   Using, the little down arrow next to the box select your local computer name.  Once you have your local server selected, press the Ok Button.
  3. Now, use your modem to dial up like your going to "surf" the Internet.
  4. Switch back to FrontPage Explorer. Once your local web site comes up, select the Publish FrontPage Web command From File.
  5. Select the location that corresponds to our server location.  This will be the IP address initially but eventually will be your domain name.  Make sure the box labeled "Copy changed pages only" has been checked then click OK.

For Microsoft FrontPage 97:

Step One: Check your connection to your new web site.

  1. Dial-up your Internet Service Provider and listen to make sure your modem connects.
  2. Open FrontPage Explorer.
  3. Select File, Open Web.
    • Click in the box labeled Web Server or File Location and type your IP address as written above.
    • Click on List Webs.
    • Click on <Root Web>
    • Click on OK.
    • Enter your userid and password.
  4. At this point, you should see your empty web site with this welcome page.

Step Two: Copying your local web site to the server.

  1. Start FrontPage Explorer.
  2. Select File Open from FrontPage. Retrieve and select a local copy of your web server..in other words...don't select a web site with numbers. Use the little down arrow next to "Web Server" and select your local computer name. Once you have your local server selected, press the List Webs button.
  3. Select the web <Root Web> or if you have named your web site, select the name.
  4. Now, use your modem to dial up like your going to "surf" the Internet.
  5. Switch back to FrontPage Explorer. Once your local web site comes up, select the Publish FrontPage Web command From File.
  6. Under Destination Web Server type the IP Address as shown above.
  7. Next under Destination Web Name, erase everything in the box. The box should be empty. Select the Option "Add to an existing web". Select the Option, "Change existing pages only".
  8. Press the OK button.
  9. Wait.

Step Three: Modifying web pages in the future- Import Web
Once you web site is up and running you can continue to use the "Publish FrontPage Web". However, you should make sure that the box labeled "Change existing pages only" has a check mark in it. If you have changed only a few pages, it will take less time to use the Import function. To use the import function, follow the directions below.

  1. Start FrontPage Explorer.
  2. Now, use your modem to dial up like your going to "surf" the Internet.
  3. Select File Open from FrontPage. Retrieve and select your remote web site from our web server. Click in the field marked Web Server and type your IP address as shown above. Then hit the carriage return key.
  4. Select the web <Root Web> and then the OK button.
  5. Enter your userid and Password then press OK.
  6. Switch back to FrontPage Explorer.
  7. Next select File and Import from the File menu. Click the Add File button in the dialog box. Find the file you want to import from your local hard disk. Select each file by holding down the shift key while pressing the left mouse button. Using this technique you can select multiple files. You can also select a range of files by pressing on the top file, then pressing on the bottom file while HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY. Finally press the Open button when you have selected all of the files.
  8. Press the OK button when you are done selecting files.
  9. If everything goes right, this will import web pages from your computer up to your web site.

For Microsoft FrontPage 1.1:

Step Three: Modifying web pages in the future- Import Web
Once you web site is up and running you will use the Import function. Keep track of each page you change and follow these instructions to import one or multiple pages to our web server. This step is not required with FrontPage 97.

  3. Select File Open from FrontPage. Retrieve and select your remote web site from our web server. Click in the field marked Web Server and type your IP address as shown above. Then hit the carriage return key.

  5. Enter your userid and Password then press OK.
  6. Switch back to FrontPage Explorer.
  7. Next select File and Import from the File menu. Click the Add File button in the dialog box. Find the file you want to import from your local hard disk.
